Greetings from the publisher!

This summer flew by exceptionally fast and it’s hard to believe it’s already over. Maybe it was the lack of usual heat waves rocking the SCV, or maybe we just keep busier these days. Whatever the case, I’m certainly looking forward to fall. Cooling down a bit usually means it’s time again to start hiking with my pup, but she’s not so much of a pup anymore, at 11 ½ , after her diagnoses of Cushings disease, hiking is no longer on her top 10 list…napping is. Well, heck—sounds good to me. Inside this season’s issue, read and learn more about the diagnosis, symptoms, and treatments of Cushing’s disease.

Every fall I look forward to the SCV’s Bow Wow’s Pet Fair at Hart Park. It holds a special place in my heart after adopting my beloved—and might I add—perfect little kitten there last year. The fair is just a feel good place. The trees, grass, fresh air, and of course the best part (well for me at least) are all of the wonderful animals the shelter brings to the fair. Who could ask for more? This year the goal is to adopt out 200 pets to new homes.
A passion near and dear to my heart and I’m hoping to help make that dream come true.
I had no idea when adopting Joey last year, that one year later I would be sitting here, with him on my lap, so crazy in love, with a cat that at first glance resembled a shaggy mop that had been dipped in black ink. He won me over and I couldn’t be happier. So gather up your loved ones, hold hands, walk through the park, think about how good it feels to have so many wonderful people who care, and share that wonderful life with one or more of the many adoptable kittens and pups waiting for a new home.
